I love this and will definitely buy it again from Psarros Aroma Of Nature.
I just got back from Crete where I was introduced to this wonderful shop. I took this tea home and brewed a cup; it took me back to my childhood when my Grandfather would make a pot of mountain tea from Crete every morning. It was always soothing, and deliciously aromatic. I love this and will definitely buy it again from Psarros Aroma Of Nature.

Loved this local place
Loved this local place, the owner is very very knowledgeable about plants so it is a great local herboristerie or herbs shop. Clients came through whilst we were there asking for medical advice for digestion etc, so locals trust and come back. Giannis' spice mixes are the best! And tea mixes as well and he is happy to explain. Heartedly recommend

About collecting wild herbs in Crete

Collecting wild herbs in Crete is a time-honored tradition deeply rooted in the island’s history and culture. Known for its rich biodiversity and unique flora, Crete offers an abundance of aromatic and medicinal herbs that grow naturally in its rugged landscapes. From the rocky hillsides to the coastal regions, the island is a treasure trove for those who seek out wild herbs for cooking, health remedies, and even spiritual practices.

The tradition of gathering herbs in Crete dates back thousands of years, with the ancient Minoans using local plants for food, medicine, and rituals. Today, many of the same species are still cherished, including dittany (Origanum dictamnus), a rare herb that only grows on the island’s mountains. Revered for its healing properties, dittany was once considered sacred and used by Hippocrates and other ancient physicians to treat wounds and digestive issues.

Other common herbs found in Crete include wild thyme, which carpets the hillsides and attracts bees that produce Cretan thyme honey, oregano, known for its strong, aromatic flavor, and sage, often used in teas and natural remedies. Marjoram and rosemary also grow abundantly in the wild and are frequently used in traditional Cretan cuisine, adding distinctive flavors to meats, stews, and salads.

The act of collecting wild herbs in Crete is often more than just a practical activity—it’s a way to connect with nature and preserve ancient knowledge. For many locals, the best times to collect herbs are in the early morning or late afternoon, when the aromatic oils are most concentrated. Spring and early summer are prime seasons for herb gathering, as the Mediterranean climate nourishes a vibrant burst of growth after the winter rains.

However, harvesting wild herbs in Crete also requires a deep respect for the land. Overharvesting and environmental changes have made some herbs, like dittany, more difficult to find in the wild. Cretan herbalists and locals adhere to sustainable practices, ensuring that only a portion of the plant is taken, leaving enough to regenerate and thrive for future seasons.

Incorporating these wild herbs into cooking or as natural remedies keeps the Cretan spirit alive, offering a taste of the island’s unique heritage while promoting a sustainable, nature-centered lifestyle. Whether foraging in the foothills of the White Mountains or the olive groves near the sea, collecting wild herbs in Crete is both a sensory and soulful experience.

Αbout organic herbs and spices

Organic herbs and spices are a wonderful addition to any kitchen, prized for their rich flavors, nutritional benefits, and sustainability. Grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs), organic herbs and spices not only preserve the environment but also ensure that the food we consume is free from harmful chemicals.

The variety of organic herbs and spices available is vast, each offering unique flavors and health benefits. For instance, organic turmeric is renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties, thanks to its active compound curcumin, while organic oregano is packed with antioxidants and has natural antibacterial qualities. Cinnamon, one of the most popular organic spices, can help regulate blood sugar levels, while organic basil adds a fresh, aromatic touch to dishes and is known for its stress-relieving properties.

Growing herbs and spices organically also promotes biodiversity, soil health, and reduces water contamination, making it a more sustainable choice. Organic farms use natural methods such as crop rotation, composting, and biological pest control to maintain healthy ecosystems. This ensures that the herbs and spices retain their full flavor, fragrance, and nutritional potency.

Using organic herbs and spices in cooking enhances the taste of dishes without the need for artificial additives. Whether sprinkled over a salad, mixed into a curry, or used in a soothing tea, they provide a natural, flavorful way to elevate meals while supporting a healthier lifestyle and planet.
